Media Services Recognized by the Division of Student Affairs

Keith Bisplinghoff

Jay Orbik

At the Annual Student Affairs Recognition Program held on May 10, 2007, Media Services was honored as a Partner of Distinction. In particular, Keith Bisplinghoff and Jay Orbik were presented with awards in recognition of their efforts in the Provost Sponsored Smart Classrooms. The supporters for this nomination stated: "Technology can be a wonderful thing, but unfortunately, it often presents new barriers to students with disabilities.... Media Services’...efforts and collaborations have helped lessen some of these barriers."

They continued by saying: "The concern that [Media Services] shows regarding accessibility surpasses what one would expect. They have shown true concern over these accessibility issues beyond, 'I need to do this because it is part of my job.' [Their] approval of the purchase of some new large screen monitors will benefit not only the students with visual impairments, but will also benefit students who are deaf and hard of hearing, and students who are ESL or who have auditory processing problems. They will provide not only improved access, but will provide 'ease of access' also. This proposal was initiated by [Media Services], not by CAAR. It is wonderful to see members of the university community do something to improve access because they thought it was the right thing to do, not because they were 'forced' to do something because of the laws."
